Victoria Lust and Adrian Waller were crowned British Under 23 Champions The women's final saw the World No37 and No1 seed Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) take on full time university student and former European Under 19 Champion Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) . The first game started with some long hard rallies are both players jostled for position. Both played some good solid squash and moved each other around the court well. It could have gone either way but it was Lust who managed to take a 9-7 lead and although Perry got it back to 9all Lust took it 11-9. The loss of the first game seemed to affect Perry and Lust was able to take control and dictate the direction of the second without too much trouble and it was quickly 2-0. Perry then regrouped and started to use her great racket skills to create good openings only for the execution of the winner to let her down. She hung on in there but Lust's superior experience and fitness were the key and she ran out a worthy 11-9 11-4 11-6 winner in 29 minutes. I think it is fair to say that both girls can have a fiery temperament on court but it should be noted that this final was played out in a fantastic spirit and gave the packed gallery an entertaining match. Top seed Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) got off to a flier in his final with 3/4 seed Ollie Pett (Sussex) and quickly took a 5-0 lead in the opening game. Pett finally got into his stride and pulled it back to 4-6 before a disputed no let decision disrupted his run and allowed Waller to regain the initiative. The game then settled and they traded point for point until at 9 all another disputed let seems to unsettle Pett once again and Waller took the game 13-11. Waller was now in control and although it remained extremely close you always got the impression he had that little bit extra to give. Again it remained close until at 8-9 down Waller stepped up and closed it out to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Pett was desperate to get back into it and at the beginning of the third led at 2-0 and 4-2 only to be pegged back each time. Waller took the lead for the first time at 7-6 and stayed ahead earning match ball at 10-9. The following rally saw incredible returns from both players, Waller wanting to finish it off and Pett desperate to stay in it. However it finished in Waller's favour and with it a fifth British title. 3-0 but a great match and a fitting end to a wonderful weekend in Cambridgeshire. The championships return to Hunts County again in 2012 and both Lust and Waller will be back to defend their titles. 1* Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) bt 3/4* Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) 11-9 11-4 11-6 )29m) 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) bt 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) 13-11 11-9 11-8 (50m)

Its down to the Semis - DAY TWO

Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) got the quarter finals off with a straight forward win over Kirsty West (Cheshire) . Lust has been on the WISPA tour for four years and is currently ranked 38 and her experience was too much for West. Rachel Willmott (Sussex) booked her place in the semi finals and a meeting with Lust after a solid 3-0 win over Katherine Quarterman (Oxfordshire) . The women's quarter final of the day was definitely Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) against Victoria Bell (Cumbria) . Bell, a former British Junior Champion, took the first before the match really kicked in - a monster of a second game ended in Perry eventually levelling the match courtesy of a 21-19 score. The third continued in the same vein with some thunderous drives and physical play. However it was Bell who took it 12-10 and went into the lead once more, only to lose focus at the start of the fourth and before we knew it we were all square again. There was no let-up in the decider as they traded point for point but in the end it was former European Junior Champion Perry who sneaked it 11-9. Not inspiring squash but a great contest. No2 seed Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) took the final semi slot with a tough win over Julianne Coutice (Gloucestershire) . The match was always in the balance with neither player really able to push on and take control, but it was Ramsey who managed to hold on and take a 11-9 8-11 11-5 12-10 win. In the men's championship top seed and World No 61 Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) was first to make the semi final with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Alistair Mutch (Wales) . Waller controlled the match from the off, was too quick and made Mutch work too hard to allow him to get into it. Another good performance from Waller who is yet to be tested. Waller's opponent in the semi's is British Under 19 Champion Charles Sharpes (Surrey) who gained a walkover after Tom Pashley (Sussex) had to withdraw, still struggling after his bout of glandular fever. A fresh Sharpes will no doubt pose a real threat to Waller's charge towards the title - one to watch. No2 seed Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) made the semi finals for the second year running but had to do it the hard way. Charlton twice had to fight back from a game down against Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire) who had found some form and was playing some quality squash. The match was nicely balanced at 2all and 2-2all in the fifth when England National Coach Chris Robertson remarked he would now put his hat on a Graham victory. Those words of wisdom signalled the end of Graham's challenge as Charlton took the advantage and won it 11-2…….what does he know! In a bizzare occurance Charlton now plays Ollie Pett (Sussex ) who himself also gained a walkover - this time Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) withdrawing due to his recurring viral infection. Quarter Final Results 1* Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) bt 5/8* Kirtie West (Cheshire) 11-2 11-2 11-4 (15m) 3/4* Rachel Willmott (Sussex) bt 5/8* Katherine Quarterman (Oxfordshire) 11-5 11-3 11-5 (23m) 3/4* Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) bt 5/8* Victoria Bell (Cumbria) 6-11 21-19 10-12 11-3 11-9 (63m) 2* Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) bt 5/8* Julianne Courtice (Gloucestershire) 9-11 11-8 11-5 12-10 (43) 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) bt 9/16* Alistair Mutch (Wales) 11-6 11-7 11-7 (31m) 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) bt 3/4* Tom Pashley (Sussex) Walkover 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) bt 5/8* Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) Walkover 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) bt 5/8* Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire) 8-11 13-11 8-11 11-7 11-2 (72m) Semi Final Line Up 1* Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) v 3/4* Rachel Willmott (Sussex) 2* Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) v 3/4* Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) v 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) v 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) renewed her junior rivalry with Rachel Willmott (Sussex) this afternoon with Lust commenting 'its just like the old days with all these players back on court facing each other'. The names remain the same but for some their game has dramatically improved. Lust is one of those players who has pushed on in the last year or so and is now enjoying some success on the tour. From the start it was clear who the full time player was as Lust took the first game 11-1. The momentum carried on into the second as Lust raced into a 5-1 lead, then 8-3 and soon took game 11-4. The third was just as emphatic, Lust too quick and precise with her shots leaving no way back for Willmott who was struggling to get into the game, 11-5 in the third and a comprehensive 3-0 victory for Lust who looks forward to her Final tomorrow. The first Men's Semi Final saw Charles Sharpes (Surrey) take on his good friend Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) . Both men have made great strides in the game of late with Sharpes playing well on the domestic circuit and Waller steadily climbing up the world rankings. With both players mainly untroubled through the draw so far it was a good test of ability for each player, the onus on Sharpes to see just how much his game has improved. Sharpes started the first well but at 5 all Waller moved up a gear and took control as he took the next 5 points, and eventually the game 11-6. The second saw Sharpes step up, keeping with Waller point for point until it was 9-9, a no let decision gave the game ball to Waller and he took full advantage, taking the next rally and the 2 nd game 11-9. In the third Sharpes could no longer match Wallers fast pace, Waller didn't look in any trouble from this point onwards and booked his place in the Final as he won the 3 rd 11-5 and the game 3-0 in 35 minutes. Next up it was the battle of the European Junior Champions - Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) and Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) . Both players had endured tough quarters earlier in the day so stamina and determination were going to be important - however it was a strange match that failed to generate the intensity expected in a major semi final. Second seed Ramsey started the stronger and edged the first but after that she failed to move Perry around the court effectively and Perry started to pick off the winners at will. The match quickly ran away from Ramsey and Perry was a very worthy winner 9-11 11-4 11-4 11-6. Perry now has time to rest and prepare for tomorrow's final. Last semi on court was Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) against Ollie Pett (Sussex) . The first was a bit scrappy and went to a tie breaker but it was Charlton that prevailed. He then got off to a flier in the second courtesy of 4 errors from Pett and a stroke to lead 5-0. Any thoughts of a quick finish were soon dashed as Pett fought back and levelled at 1-1. The next was tight and went to 5all with some great squash and some incredible retrieving. However the difference was another run of unforced errors by Pett and Charlton took the lead once more 2-1. But as the script predicted back came Pett to take it into a decider. The fifth was hard to watch as Charlton tried everything to keep in it but he simply had nothing left after the exertions of the day and Pett took it. A bitter disappointment for Charlton but a great win and a place in the final for Pett. Semi Final Results 1* Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) bt 3/4* Rachel Willmott (Sussex) 11-1 11-4 11-5 (19m) 3/4* Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) bt 2* Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) 9-11 11-4 11-4 11-6 (39m) 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) bt 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) 11-6 11-9 11-5 (34m) 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) bt 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) 10-12 11-9 6-11 11-6 11-5 (63m)

Mens Qualifying & Round 1 The usual beautiful sunshine and BBQ stand were out this morning to signal the start of the third British Under 23 Championships to be staged at Hunts County Squash Club . Local interest in the men's event rested with Cambridgeshire duo Robert Dadds and Daniel McGinn . Dadds safely came through last nights qualifying to face 9/16 seed Nathan Lake (Gloucestershire ) in Round 1. It was a great first game that went to 9, 10 and 11 all before Lake finally took it 13-11. That seemed to drain Dadds and his challenge quickly faded - Lake taking the following 2 games comfortably 11-3 11-5 to move into Round 2. It was then down to Daniel McGinn, but he was up against 19 year old rising star and 5/8 seed Charles Sharpes (Surrey) . This was always going to be a tough encounter for McGinn who went down to the British Under 19 champion 11-0 11-1 11-7. It was an uneventful first round with all the seeds progressing with good 3-0 victories: Men's Qualification Robert Dadds {Cambridgeshire} beat Alexander Williams {Norfolk} 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 {25m} ;Jordan Creed {Norfolk} beat Peter Dickinson {Cambridgeshire} 15-13, 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9 {55m} Men's Round 1 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) beat Jordan Creed (Norfolk) 11-1, 11-4, 11-2 (14m) 9/16* Nathan Lake (Gloucestershire) beat Robert Dadds (Cambridgeshire) 13-11, 11-3, 11-5 (24m) 5/8* Ben Coleman (Essex) beat Niall Engerer (Essex) 11-3, 11-6, 11-8 (32m) 9/16* Alistair Mutch (Wales) beat Lyell Fuller (Devon) 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 (21m) 3/4* Tom Pashley (Sussex) beat Charlie Johnson (Hertfordshire) 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 (24m) 9/16* Robert Downer (Hampshire) beat George Parker (Leicestershire) 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 (23m) 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) beat Daniel McGinn (Cambridgeshire) 11-0, 11-1, 11-7 (25m) 9/16* Declan James (Nottinghamshire) beat Matthew Hardy (Northumbria) 11-8, 11-1, 11-7 (19m) 9/16* Tom Ford (Gloucestershire) beat David Allman (Herefordshire) 11-3, 11-2, 11-5 (28m) 5/8* Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) beat Tristan Eysele (Hampshire) 12-10, 11-3, 11-7 (29m) 9/16* James Earles (Yorkshire) beat Thomas Allman (Herefordshire) 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 (22m) 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) beat Richie Fallows (Essex) 11-5, 11-2, 11-3 (23m) 9/16* Adam Murrills (Cheshire) beat Eric Garson (Berkshire) 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 (19m) 5/8* Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire) beat Liam Gutcher (Northumbria) 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 (27m) 9/16* Adam Auckland (Lincolnshire) beat Jon Brown (Nottinghamshire) 11-1, 11-3, 11-3 (13m) 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) beat Nicholas Mulvey (Hertfordshire) 11-7, 11-5, 11-3 (21m) The session also signalled the return of Nottinghamshire's Jon Brown who was a legend (not always for his squash it must be added) around the junior circuit for many years. No2 seed and close friend Eddie Charlton (Nottingham) persuaded Jon to pick up his racket again after a few years away from the game and try his luck in the U23's. His 2 training sessions in recent weeks weren't quite enough to get him back up to match fitness and he struggled from about the fourth point as he fell to Adam Auckland (Lincolnshire) 11/1 11/3 11/3. Round 2 sees a rematch of the recent BSPA Wimbledon Cup tussle between 5/8 seed Ben Coleman (Essex ) and 9/16 seed Alistair Mutch (Wales) . Coleman will be looking to justify his higher seeding and gain revenge for his 3-0 loss to Mutch two weeks ago. Adam Murrills (Cheshire) will be hoping to keep his good run going. Back in Februarys National Championships Murrills beat Former World No3 Simon Parke and just last week he took out Stephen Meads in the PSL semi final but still finished on the losing side as Chapel Allerton lost to St Georges Hill. Murrills faces friend and training partner Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire) . The Women's draw begins this evening with No1 seed Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) looking to put the disappointment of missing last year's championship through injury behind her and claim her first British title since the juniors. Mens Round 2 and Ladies Round 1 The British Under 23's at the fantastic facilities at Hunts County Squash Club came alive this evening with some excellent squash and some great matches. Top seed Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) set the session off with a professional and clinical 11-4 11-7 11-4 victory over Nation Lake (Gloucestershire) . Waller looks to be in good form and is going to take some beating this weekend as he aims to add this title to the four British titles he amassed as a junior. Alistair Mutch (Wales) became the first player to take out a higher seed when he defeated 5/8 seed Ben Coleman (Essex) in a tough second round encounter. The 9/16 seed took control late on in the first game and then fought back from 10-8 down in the second to take a two games to nil lead. Coleman continued to fight and took the third and then raced into a 5-0 lead in the fourth. However something awoke Mutch and back he came to take the game 11-8 and the match 3-1. It was always a close call as which of these two should be the higher seed and Mutch made his point - we got it wrong! 3/4 seed Tom Pashley (Sussex) struggled in his match with Rob Downer (Hampshire) . It was a scrappy affair and a real shock looked on the cards when Downer took an unlikely 2-0 lead. Although Pashley looked out of sorts and sluggish he managed to find his length and back he came to square it at 2 all. The decider remained untidy with nether player really taking control - Downer was ahead for most of it but seemed to lose his focus and discipline every time he lost a point and was getting frustrated with himself. Pashley remained calm even at 6-8 down and managed to edge it 11-8. A win but only just and Pashley knows he is going to have to do better if he is to progress through the draw tomorrow. Charles Sharpes (Surrey) and Declan James (Nottinghamshire) entertained the show court crowd with some wonderful squash, played in the true spirit of the game. Although Sharpes took it 3-0 James fought back from 7-1 down in the third before eventually losing out 16-14. No2 seed Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) and 5/8 seed Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) enjoyed fairly comfortable 3-0 wins over Adam Auckland (Lincolnshire) and Tom Ford (Gloucestershire) respectively. Ollie Pett (Sussex) is a man in form and looked good as he put James Earles (Yorkshire) to the sword - an impressive performance and he moves on to meet Chris Fuller in the quarters. Last match on - 5/8* Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire) against 9/16* Adam Murrills (Cheshire) and as predictable it was never going to be easy. A close first game ensued that Graham probably shaded but Murrills took the spoils for. Graham then withstood an injury break and took the second 11/4 and also took the third….just 12-10. Graham then went on to wrap it up in the fourth as Murrills lost his composure and allowed unforced errors to keep in far too often. The women's draw also got underway but the top seeds were able to rest until tomorrow. The pick of the Round 1 matches was Katherine Quarterman (Oxfordshire) who had to dig deep to overcome 15 year old Eleanor Lake (Gloucestershire) . Quarterman was twice pegged back before eventually taking it 11-9 7-11 11-7 7-11 11-9. Quarterman's reward is a Round 2 match against Rachel Willmott (Sussex) who overcame Brogan Lane (Hertfordshire) in three. Men's Round 2 Results 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) beat 9/16* Nathan Lake (Gloucestershire) 11-4, 11-4, 11-3 (14m) 9/16* Alistair Mutch (Wales) beat 5/8* Ben Coleman (Essex) 11-7, 12-10, 7-11, 11-8 (56m) 3/4* Tom Pashley (Sussex) beat 9/16* Robert Downer (Hampshire) 9-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-8 (54m) 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) beat 9/16* Declan James (Nottinghamshire) 11-6, 11-8, 16-14 (39m) 5/8* Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) beat 9/16* Tom Ford (Gloucestershire) 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 (38m) 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) beat 9/16* James Earles (Yorkshire) 11-4, 11-7, 11-9 (28m) 5/8* Anthony Graham (Gloucestreshire) bt 9/16* Adam Murrills (Cheshire) 11-13 11-4 12-10 11-5 (61m) 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) beat 9/16* Adam Auckland (Lincolnshire) 11-3, 11-5, 11-5 (25m) Women's Round 1 Results 5/8* Kirsty West (Cheshire) beat Lucy Pallett (Warwickshire) 11-4, 11-5, 11-9 (16m) ;3/4* Rachel Willmott (Sussex) beat Brogan Lane (Hertfordshire) 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 (23m) 5/8* Katherine Quarterman (Oxfordshire) beat Eleanor Lake (Gloucestershire) 11-9, 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9 (41m) 5/8* Victoria Bell (Cumbria) beat Lauren Tamilla (Lancashire) 11-9, 11-3, 11-4 (17m) Quarter Final Line Up 1* Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) v 5/8* Kirst West (Cheshire) 3/4* Rachel Willmott (Sussex) v 5/8* Katherine Quarterman (Oxfordshire) 3/4* Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) v 5/8* Victoria Bell (Cumbria) 2* Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) v5/8* Julianne Courtice (Gloucestershire) 1* Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) v 9/16* Alistair Mutch (Wales) 3/4*Tom Pashley (Sussex) v 5/8* Charles Sharpes (Surrey) 3/4* Oliver Pett (Sussex) v 5/8* Chris Fuller (Northamptonshire) 2* Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) v 5/8* Anthony Graham (Gloucestershire)

Sports Academy juniors at English Open

Young squash players from Cambridgeshire competed in The National England Junior Squash Championships in Surrey over three days. Representing The Sports Academy at Hunts County Squash Club, all three performed really well against tough opposition from some two hundred of the best players from around the country: Tayla Mounter in her first year in the Girls U15, played her matches at the Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, a new centre to major squash events and enjoyed by all the players, coaches and parents. Tayla, who has just moved up from U13 to U15, was drawn against Cloe Harrison from Lancashire England #15 and although following her usual warm-up and clearly keen to get on court and play, found the very warm conditions and older more experienced opponent a handful! In quick time Cloe had Tayla under pressure and was two games up: showing great character and determination, Tayla came back in the third game to make the match competitive, but although showing great spirit in the fourth it was too much for her and after a very close game she lost 1-3. Emily Fuller and Nadine El Refee both played at Collets in Thames Ditton, venue of many major events including hosting finals of National Interclub. Emily had a difficult match in the Girls under 13 against Ellen Cooper from Pontefract, Yorkshire: going down 2-3 in a hard fought match, Emily who is quite new to competitive squash showed early signs of knowing how to compete (she attends Perse Girls school in Cambridge and represents the school at a number of other sports). In the consolation event, Emily looked set to win against another good young player from Yorkshire but pulled a hamstring and again lost 2-3, struggling at the end to get to the ball! Nadine, also playing the Girls U13, had an excellent win against Aisha Forester from Yorkshire, winning 10/4, 10/3, 10/2 in just 13 minutes, the fastest first round match to be played . She then had another excellent win against Laura Neil from Northants, winning 10/4, 10/5, 10/2 - again in thirteen minutes! Looking good. In the quarter-finals she came up against the number 2 seed, Elin Jones from Gloucester; starting off with great confidence and playing attacking squash she took the first game 11/5: then, as so often happens in junior squash, she lost her way a bit and started over hitting her length and forgetting her game plan. Elin at the same time began to hit better length and although Nadine had real chances to win the second game, she eventually went down 10/12, 10/6, 10/8, finishing strongly, but the middle part of the match taking allot of nervous energy out of her as she struggled to re-kindle her early form. In the play-offs for England National Rankings, she finished 6 th - one place higher than expected. All three girls train regularly at Hunts County Squash Club as part of The Sports Academy Junior Program. With The Sports Academy now taking squash into a number of schools in the area, organising the junior program at St Ivo and the growing program at Hunts County, there are in excess of 1300 youngsters involved. Head Coach Colin Griggs says "2011/12 should see a number of our young players fighting for places on National Junior Teams and with the Sports Academy Team now providing coaching from six England Squash coaches, including three that have played at International Level, there has never been a better time to play squash"

Full credit must be given to Rob as he had the toughest route possible to the final which included a large number of the East Regions former top U19 players such like Lemom, Waller, El Refee and Dixon. The Sports Academy/Hunts County Squash Club was nominated for Community Club of the Year and after a long wait with the tension rising our category was next up with an X Factor style introduction we where announced as Runners Up.

With our skipper Billy throwing red wine down his latest designer floral shirt celebrating his 40th, I was captain against Comberton 2. I was greeted by Ash, who with a look reminiscent of Sir Matt Busby about to unleash his babes said, "We've brought the kids along tonight, hopefully it will be a good match." Mmmmm, concerning. First up was Andeeeeee v 17 year old Jack Murphy, who after some powerful hitting was despatched 9/5, 9/2 in the first two games. Andeeee was back to his memorable form of 1997 & 2009, the tropical heat of court 2 suiting his balletic mix of strength and lofty drop shots. Fully in control, Andeeeee closed it 9/6 in the 3rd, well done big boy. I was up next against 15 year old Sam Bradshaw, a lad with a look of a lost Victorian waif who did not smile much. With my court 2 season ticket expired, I took the first 9/6 in a tight match. This lad could certainly play & I had to stay sharp. With Sam making error after error, I eased the 2nd 9/5 and was 5-1 up in the 3rd when suddenly, I lost all energy and the ability to walk, amusing the home crowd. Sam sensed a fifth game match but I hung on to win 10/8 in the 3rd. Chunky v Griggsy's protégé 17 year old Tom Blair was the game of the night, which I missed as I was marking my 2nd match. What I can tell you is that with our Chunk losing the first two 7/9, 3/9 and looking like Denty's slower cousin, there was only going to be one winner. Using 40 years squash experience he baffled his Beckham like opponent with his trademark boasts, tight serves and his usual warm, happy, calm low key presence on court. Chunk took the 3rd 9/3 and with Tom's face turning Ribena-like, he lost concentration and the 4th 9/2. The 5th was an epic, soon to be on DVD with the Fenstanton warrior victorious 10/8. Buddy v Martyn Symmons was one of the few times I have really felt sorry for an opponent. Expecting a gentle amble on a Thursday evening with a glass of port to finish, Martyn ran into the B-train. Having recovered from an 8 day binge drinking festival, Buddy completely demolished Martyn in 18 minutes 9/3, 9/1, 9/3, to say Martyn did well to achieve the 7 points is an understatement. Buddy is back. STOP PRESS: Buddy will be unavailable next week due to an 8 day binge drinking fest in Egypt. Oh well. Rocket Stevenson v Ash Babbar or should that be Bar Bye. This was a MASTERCLASS and a pleasure to mark. Ash played into Adam's hand on court 2 with his game plan being to outdo our man on length and long rallies. First mistake. With Adam rooted to the "T" spraying the ball around like Picasso with pallet, Ash investigated each and every corner of the court on his way to losing the first two 9/1, 9/1. With Ash looking like he had just climbed out of an Indesit 2000 washing machine, he continued to gallantly defend but the Rocket showed very little mercy closing the match 9/4. Great to see you back Big Man. Match score Hunts County 20 - Comberton II 2, biggest win for 7 years!

Fresh from my 40 th birthday celebrations we headed over to St Neots. I made a promise to the lads that we were to remain unbeaten since they took Comberton apart in my absence. It certainly didn't start well with me up against Anthony Charters. I managed to throw the first game from being 8-4 up losing 10-8. Strong and motivational words from the Rocket saw me play like an absolute tit and lose the second 9-0!!! With my racket having been launched at the wall in frustration I took to the court determined to turn the match around - I needed a win to get my season started - I also knew I could beat this bloke! I dug in and took the next two games, (9/6, 9/3). Despite being 3-0 down in the fifth I kept to the Rocket's game plan, (keep it deep!) and took the game and match 9/5 - huge relief - get in there!!! Andy was up against the vocal Andy Evans on court 2 - this was a great match which also went to 5. I managed to watch the last game with our man in total control taking it 9-2 - great result Andeee - 2-0 up! Gab's was a strange match in that he was in total control at 2-0 up, cigar out when his opponent, Nigel Harper started to get some length on his high floaters. Gab couldn't cope with the awkward lobs and lost the next three - hard luck mate! Chunk's match was over all too quickly - for his opponent Paul Beck. This bloke had absolutely no answer to Chunk's boasts, and at one point was actually shaking his head and laughing! Easy win for Chunk, playing up at 2 - 3-0 - Paul managed 2 points!!! So with the points and the win secured we all gathered to watch the Rocket take their weirdo no 1 to pieces - or so we thought! Bryan Williams is a strange 'nodding' bloke who really didn't look that great in the warm up - how wrong we were! No matter where the maestro put the ball this bloke got it back - and with interest! At 2-1 down we honestly thought that their bloke had the better of the Rocket. As usual our man somehow got something extra out of the bag - he always does it and I just don't know how! He took the fourth 9-7 which seemed to take the stuffing out of their bloke who had thrown everything at the Rocket. At 2-2 there was only one winner and the Rocket closed it out 9-3 - another great win and well deserved!

Next up we took on Peterborough at their place. I was up first against Carlos Correira - feisty Portuguese bloke with a bandana who certainly had a good grasp of English slang! Whilst I never felt under any real pressure he was extremely off putting with his swearing and little conversations he insisted on having between points. I took the first two games, (9/6, 9/1) and then let him get under my skin, losing concentration and the third game, 9/5. I managed to keep my cool to take the fourth and the match, (9/5) - back to back wins - this hasn't happened for a very long time, ( a great feeling though!). I didn't see Chunk's match, however he was playing the very useful Graham Simms who has certainly played some great squash over the years. Chunk struggled with this one and went down in four - as usual though a great effort! Andeee had no problem in dispatching Neil Needham in three, albeit he did fall asleep in the third, despite being in total control, (9/2, 9/1, 10/9) - nice one Andeee! Buddy's match was a really tight one, and had he have been fit he would have taken his little chubby opponent apart. Unfortunately Buddy has been chewing on the sofas again in Egypt! This went all the way to five and Buddy could have nicked it but sadly it wasn't to be and he lost 9/6 in the fifth - a great effort bearing in mind the state he was in - no more holidays until AFTER the season has finished Buddy! Here we were with the match perfectly balanced. I have to say that this was the most gutsy performance I have ever seen - even by the Rocket's standards! His opponent, Grant Bird was an extremely awkward, and useful left hander who had a great knowledge of the court and how to play against the Rocket who was struggling more than usual with his array of injuries. This really did look as though it would be over in three very quick games with the Rocket 2-0 down and 7-0 down in the third. We were all ready for the early shower when the Rocket just came alive - from absolutely nowhere he got himself back into the match with some sublime shots taking the third 10-8 - game well and truly on!!! The next one was another extremely tight one which again went to 10 - thankfully it went to the Rocket 10-9. You could see that their bloke couldn't grasp what had happened and capitulated with the Rocket taking the game and match 9-0. Believe me this was something special in terms of his commitment - this was a proper display of grit and determination - brilliant! Three wins out of four - next up Cambridge at Royal Hemmingford!

Nadine El-Refee, currently ranked 15 in England in the girls U-13, continued her fine form in the opening event of the Peter Nicol Series. Ever improving, through constant training at the club, Nadine is steadily heading towards her goal of getting into the top 5 in England by the end of the season. Nadine, aged 12, had a good run through to the final where she came up against some stubborn opposition. Losing the first, here is what nadine's mum Molly had to say, " After a tough first, Nadine seemed to wake up and played some great squash, winning the next three games." Nerves obviously have a part to play in finals and Nadine conquered that after the first game showing a maturity beyond her years. Also, the following weekend Nadine finished as the runner-up at the Finchley Manor Middlesex Junior Open in the U-15 category. This was a great achievement and we wish Nadine luck for the rest of the season. May her great form continue!

This was the last event in the 2010 Harrow UK-Racketball Series and it turned out to be a great one. Congratulations to Ted Jeal who claimed his first Harrow UK-Racketball Tour Title at Hunts County. Match Reports Super 16 A Grade Group A Some great matches but in the end the number 1 seed comes through almost unscathed. Galen Le Cheminant vs Scott Richard 2-0 3 weeks ago Galen had claimed his first racketball trophy at the St Ivo Tournament but was facing a tough field if he wanted to claim his first UK-Racketball Tour Title at his home club. Even his first match was a tough one, Galen made a rusty start and soon found himself 10-5 down in the first with Richard playing controlled racketball and waiting for the errors. From 10-5 down though Galen came back hitting the ball harder and beginning to find length, he ended up taking the game 12-10 and didn't look back taking the 2nd comfortably. Galen Le Cheminant vs Pete Goodings 2-1 Galens next opponent Pete Gooding's (up to 17 on the UK-Racketball Rankings) would be a tough opponent and as always with Gooding's it doesn't seem to matter who he is playing it's his shots that seem to determine the result. When he's on he can rattle off winner after winner when he's not all you can hear is the sound of the ball hitting the tin, usually very hard! In the first Galen looked to be playing himself in after his close opener that morning but in the end Gooding's just made too many mistakes costing him the game 11/6. In the 2nd Gooding began to find his range and started to crack some great winners, there was little Galen could have done and the match was back level. In the 3rd Gooding's hit some great winners but in the end there were just too many mistakes and Galen finished off the match keeping his title hopes alive. In the final game in the group Richard managed to overcome Gooding's 2-1 who was looking tired after a couple of over 40s matches (my fault, sorry Pete!). Group B Ted Jeal vs Sam Stablers 2-0 It's always interesting to see how new participants to the UK-Racketball series approach the best of 3 format where you really cant afford to giveyour opponent anything especially early on. Both started solidly not going for much and fighting for the early lead which never came, it was a classic case of both players negating the other and failing to gain any advantage. Right through to the tie break neither player managed to pull away with both hitting hard lengths and retrieving well. Stablers could have taken the 1st game having 3 game balls but in the end Jeal claimed a brutal game 16/14. After winning the first you can often keep the momentum going into the 2nd and Jeal did just that racing to a 7-2 lead, Stablers fought back but it was to late, fantastic racketball played in a great spirit. 2-0 was a flattering score line but Jeal will take it, first win on the UK-Racketball tour. Sam Stabler vs James Powley 2-1 Stabler lost another 1st game on tie break this time 12/10 despite going 8-4 up, Powley fought back well and with the momentum in his favour just managed to hang on and take the opening tie break. Unlike against Jeal however Stabler made a strong start to the 2nd taking an early lead and never looking back taking the last 2 games 11/7, 11/6. 3rd / 4th Playoff Sam Stablers vs Scott Richard 2-0 A very high standard of racketball but Richards never really managed to bring Stablers out of his comfort zone. Stablers always looked that bit more controlled hitting good length and working Richard out of position with controlled working straight attacks to the front. Both games were comfortable with Stablers playing progressively better racketball as the day went on, would have been interesting to see him have another crack at Jeal. Sometimes the 3rd, 4th playoffs aren't competitive, this was with Richard fighting right to the end to find a way back in. FINAL Galen Le Cheminant vs Ted Jeal 0-2 With the results from the A grade coming in faster than the 50's or B (which had bigger draws) the players had a couple of hours to prepare for the final, something that doesn't often happen on the quick fire UK-Racketball Tour. Both players had tough group games leading to the final but hopefully they would be recovered. Another fantastic UK-Racketball Tour final with both players lifting their games to a new level from what we had seen from them so far in the day. Both hit the ball hard, both have winning shots and both are used to winning racketball events, always going to be close contest. In the end Jeal was just more mobile getting a few more balls back, with desperate retrieves off the back wall and racing from corner to corner. Some rallies he retrieved what would have been 3 winners against another opponent. Galen will be a handful for whoever he gets in the nationals, my tip for an age group title! Would be great next season to have tour finals with Dom Hamilton playing off against Ted Jeal, Andrew Birks, Eddie Chalton, Laura Hill, Gavin Perrett, Sam Stablers, Tom Phipps, Neil Chambers and Matt Baker to name only a few. Would be some tournament. B Grade There would be a lot of matches in group B with many of the competitors leaving having had at least 4 and in many cases 5. The standard was also one of the highest in a B grade so far. Group A Tom Murton the victor of Wolverhampton 3 weeks earlier came through the group stages unscathed with Rob Allen narrowly beating Gary Slator to claim 2nd place. Group B Sean Brodrick vs David Herron 0-2 Brodrick started slowly with Herron taking the ball early and dictating the pace of the first game. Brodrick came back at the start of the 2nd with some tough rallies but once Herron pulled away the match was all over. Ross Proudfoot vs david Herron 10/12, 12/10, 11/4 Both guys were leading the 4 man group with this match deciding a place in the semi final. The first game was played at a fast pace and went right to tie break with Herron just holding on 12/10. The second was always going to be a battle and was close right through until Herron pulled away 10/7 to set himself up with 3 match balls. Proudfoot dug in and stopped making mistakes and Herron tried to go for a few to finish the match but missed with Proudfoot fighting back to take the game to a tie break. A brutal rally at 10-10 was won by Proudfoot who then converted his first game ball to level the match at 1-1 but the momentum was anything but even. After getting so close to winning the match in the 2nd it was always going to be tough for Heron to re group for the 3rd and he never quite managed it, losing the game 11/4 and the match 2-1. Group C Stephen Elliott set up his rematch (of the Wolverhampton final) with Tom Murton in the semis, without dropping a single game in group C but Antony Ryder came close. Group D James Murphy (Mr consistent on the UK-RB tour) reached his 3rd semi final out of 4 on the tour so far winning both matches 2-0. Semi Finals 3 of the 4 semi finalists had achance to top the B rankings for 2010 if they came through with the win so there was everything to play for. With Gary Culverwell absent he was guaranteed to lose the top spot but it could still be either Tom Murton (3rd place 350pts), James Murphy (5th place 335pts) and Stephan Elliott (10th place with 230pts) who would become series champion. Tom Murton vs Stephan Elliott 2-0 These two played in the closest final of the tour so far with both having tournament balls and Murton eventually coming out on top 15/13 in the 3rd set tie break. The match today was almost as close and Elliott must be gutted to once again finish on the receiving end, so close but another great battle. 3rd / 4th Playoff Stephan Elliott bt James Murphy 2-0. Murphy had just played the 50s final and had been on court for 7 matches already that day, another good effort. Final - Ross Proudfoot vs Tom Murton Both players had a tough root to the final, both had already had 3 matches of which they had sneaked one 2-1 but Proudfoot had the longer break of the 2 ahead of the final. The first game was tight but Proudfoot was hitting a better length and Murton doing more work. Murton was looking tired before he started and this relentless pressure was beginning to take its toll, he wasn't moving on to the ball as quickly and trying to finish rallies to early. In the end Proudfoot came through a comfortable winner, bet he's feeling glad he didn't lose one of those match balls against Herron earlier. Harrow T3 racket for the winner, great effort Ross. But congratulations to Murton as well who has topped the B rankings for 2010! Check out the rankings that will be on the site soon! Over 40s No Rob Watkins today (car trouble) so the draw was wide open and in one big group it would be a straight shootout for the title. Buzby Williams vs Patrick Ozborn 2-0 This was a rematch of the opening match in Esporta (the 2nd tournament) in the UK-Racketball tour where Patrick had emerged victorious 2-1 and scarpered Buzby's hopes of a title on home turf. This time Buzby was ready though and right from the start the match was a battle at 8/8 in the 1st both players were looking for anything that would give them the edge and Buzby found it with a fortunate stroke, after that Patrick never recovered his composure losing the game 11/8.In the second Buzby kept the momentum of the first going racing to a 7/3 lead only to see Patrick fight back before Buzby had just enough left to hang on and finish the match. Mark Thornley vs Pete Goodings A fantastic match which Mark came out of on top 2-1. Pete had just finished his first round in A against Galen and looked at times to have nothing left, his racket skills all that was keeping him in the game. Despite a last minute stand in the 3rd coming back from 10/4 down to 9/10 he just didn't have enough in the tank and finished cursing the organiser who had him in 2 events (sorry again Pete!). Patrick Ozborn vs Mark Thronley Regular sparing partners who both still stood a chance of the title was always going to make for an interesting game. Mark played steady racketball from the off, hitting deep and keeping the ball hard and low. In the second Patrick came back finding better length and slotting winners with a great forehand drop and boast. In practice I am told Patrick always comes out on top but it wasn't the case today, in the 3rd Mark was just to steady and claimed the contest. Final - Mark Thornley vs Buzby Williams 0-2 The first game was close all the way and eventually fell to Buzby 11/9. In the second Mark was the quicker starter and quickly found himself 7/3 up, it looked like the match was heading for a 3rd set but Buzby dug deep and stopped going for anything risky and just made it tough and waited for the error. They eventually came and Buzby had the win, his first title and the points will surely see him finish near the top of the 40s rankings. Over 50s Quite a few late withdrawals left the 50s draw looking considerably smaller than anticipated. In group A Mike Philips once more came through triumphant with Graham Greensall overcoming tour new comer Peter Dampney to claim 2nd place. In group B and C it was the tour veterans against the tour newcomers and the veterans came out on top with James Murphy beating Gary Mason and Garry Devonish beating Byron Williams. Runners-up Group Graham Greensall came out on top not dropping a game, with Gary Mason coming out on top against Byron Williams to claim 2nd place. Winners Group Good match between Devonish and Murphy but there was always only going to be one winner with Mike Philips completing the set with his 5th title and still not really looking troubled. If anyone needs a racket I'm sure Mike Philips will share, that's his 5th Harrow T3 from the series, he will take some catching at racketball. James Murphy has been unlucky though, this was his third 50s final on the tour so far and without Mike Philips he surely would have claimed a title (and racket). To have reached 3 B semis and 3 50s finals is a great effort; if he maintains that consistency for 2011 he must surely take his first title soon. Summary Some really great age group racketball in Hunts County all played in a fantastic spirit. We will have to look at exactly what we will do with the age group categories in the 2011 tour, join the debate on the www.uk-racketball.com forum to have your say, which ball should we be using, should there be an over 45's/ over 60s? We want to run tournaments that you want to play in so please let us know if there is anything you think we should change and we will try and get it right

Match Report 1 - 3 rd Team 2010 /2011 So, here we were relegated from the heights of division 2 to play Newmarket in div 3. Without the crocked Rocket we still felt as though we'd have enough in turn over the tractor boys….. Unfortunately Buddy was still half cut from his 40 th birthday antics at the weekend and helpfully they had strengthened their team considerably, (get the excuses in early!!!). I was up against their almost pensioner, Val Ryan. Despite playing some really good squash recently, (for me!) I reverted to my team mentality and made the all too common mistakes. Whilst it was a good match against an awkward opponent I should have won comfortably had I have played the way the lads instructed - I didn't and ended up losing 3-1, (9/7, 0/9, 10/8, 9/0)….I have a couple of weeks to get my head sorted out for my next match as I'm out next week for my 40 th celebrations! Andy was up against the extremely fit and lithe jockey boy Mark Childs. What I saw of this was Andy looking rather hot and bothered and Mark pretty much retrieving everything he could throw at him. It was a tight encounter with Andy losing in 5. Next up - The Gabiator…. Yet again Gab came up with the goods, despite playing someone who appeared as though he couldn't be arsed! Yes you do have to beat what's in front of you Gab but I didn't actually see him in front of you, or the T for the entire match! Anyway our man saw off their lacklustre bloke in 3 easy games - thanks for restoring some pride though Gab! I'll amalgamate Chunk and Buddy's matches into one summary…. Both had their shorts pulled down and were spanked. Chunk never got going against a very tight left hander, Simon Morris. Buddy just blew and blew out of every orifice against Matt Pearce, who he would ordinarily dispatch easily - not tonight though! Both matches were over all too quickly! Just to rub salt in our wounds Val showed me his bus pass and Matt held up the results sheet and asked, "Is that okay Bill?", (at least our food's better than theirs!). We did have a cheeky little p*** take lined up for the Rocket, (as we assumed that we might actually win!), HOWEVER - you're not dropped Rocket…please hurry back, (believe me, even injured you'll show us t****** up - not you Gab!). Next up - Comberton at home…… Come on lads!!! Cheers for the lack of swearing this week Billy!

Week 1, 06/10/10. HCSC Men's I Vs Cambridge I. Start of another new season with the reigning county champions lining up with one new addition to the team in Paul Jordan. 'Pretty-Boy' has been drafted to the 2 nd 's to hopefully get a better quality of match and help out with Fordy's long term absence. Several things didn't change…….the opposition were all still late, and the poxy scoring didn't change either. The bizarre, and frankly stupid idea of having one of the opponents refereeing every match didn't happen either! Bruce Hodgkiss was the only Cambridge player that did show up on time, so 'Pro-ley' started off first at third string. Things started off badly for Bruce with him nursing his achilles/calf in the warm-up and asking if any of his team had any pain killers. James started off loose but soon found his marks and never looked in any danger really. Bruce played some good single shots but didn't pressurise JP consistently enough to do any real damage. 15/5, 15/11, 15/10 (3-0). PJ started his 1 st team career with a really difficult match against Pip Johnson who played at second string last year. He hasn't played over the summer, but still a real challenge for the youngster. PJ relaxed quickly and set about his usual style of good court coverage and retrieval and powerful low hitting. All three games were well contested, the only difference being Paul not quite playing high enough up the court leaving spaces for Pip to use. A great start, and a great addition to the squad. 11/15, 12/15, 9/15 (0-3). The captain went on against Seth Broadbent for another battle of patience with his style/manner/sportsmanship/etc…… I did really well for three games until the classic Seth tactic of sticking the racket as far out and as early as possible to create interference on a ball he was never going to reach any way. Pro's decision making to help poor old PJ who ended up marking was the next thing to rile Seth…….same old, same old!!!! I managed to win in four games, which isn't terrible against Seth as he winds me up so badly. 11/15, 15/12, 17/15, 15/9 (3-1). G-Man went on against Ali Dawson after JP so he could go and sort the food for us. Didn't see any of it, but G wanted to play even though he's been struggling with his back (babies are harmful!!) to get some court time before the Cambs Grand Prix at the weekend. Close 1 st probably because he wasn't switched on, and then killed him after that. 18/16, 15/7, 15/9 (3-0). Peter-D played last having been moved above Pro for this season. Played Matt Beaton who's improved massively. Peter was the architect of most of his problems, but played well enough, and with enough variety and quality going short to win in three. Hopefully we can push his game back up to where it should be. 15/7, 15/9, 15/9 (3-0). So a great start against the season against a strong opposition. Next up Crown away.

Under 13 Boys In the first round Greg met an unorthodox opponent in the shape of Will Henden from Norfolk. Greg got off to a flying start and put the pressure on to comfortably win the first 2 games, the third was closer but Greg completed a 3-0 victory. Greg's quarter-final opponent was the Suffolk based Gus Beecroft. These two always have a close game and this one was no exception with Greg's extra mental strength at the end of the game giving him the first two games 11-9 11-9. Gus's resistance finally faltered half way through the third game with Greg winning that game 11-6 and the match 3-0. The semi-final was against a higher ranked opponent in the form of Fraser Linning. Fraser won a close first game but from then on Greg found an excellent depth and width on his shots and prevented his opponent from playing his normal game. Greg took the second game, and then frustrated his opponent to such an extent that he comfortably completed a well deserved victory 3-1. The final was against Laurence Green, ranked no.2 in England. Laurence took the first game but then with some fantastic retrieval Greg battled hard to win a close fought second game and square the match at 1 game all. Despite plenty of effort and determination unfortunately Greg was unable to put Laurence under more pressure eventually losing 3-1. An excellent tournament for Greg finishing runner-up to the England No2 in the East Region U13 event, a tournament that involves such strong squash playing counties as Essex and Hertfordshire. Other SA performances: Under 13 Girls Nadine El Refee (SA) did really well and narrowly missed out on a place in the final after winning a tough battle with Emily Fuller (SA) in the 1/4 Final and then losing a 5 game thriller against Collette Whittington in her Semi. Under 15 Girls Tayla Mounter had the toughest draw of all the SA team only just turning 13 was up against girls 2 years older than her. Tayla finished 4 th in her category. Under 19 Boys Rob Dadds (SA) had a very good match with eventual champion, Nick Mulvey losing 3-1 in another close encounter where Rob just ran out of steam at the end!

Continuing the 4 year tradition of UK tours on the August bank holiday weekend, it was the north east's turn to host the touring party. Starting at Grantham Squash Club on Friday 27th, the tour then travelled through Lincoln, Hull and finished in Pontefract on Sunday 29th. 360 miles covered three pre-season training matches, one on-court training session and many other 'skill-challenges' off the court as part of another great project. Paul Jordan (17), David MacDonald (18) and Ben May (18) were lead by Colin Griggs (SA Head Coach) over the three day trip which again proved to be a superb team building event as well as a training platform outside the club. Grantham pitted the team against senior opposition, with Paul Jordan emerging as the star performer battling to a great 3-2 victory. Home advantage and a steely determination not to lose "to a bunch of kids" produced a tough environment for the youngsters, and one they'll learn a lot from. 3-1 to Grantham was the final score line. Lincoln turned into a training session due to the opponents pulling out at the 11th hour, and from there the team moved north to Hull. The club that hosted has a well developed junior section, so the second match had a more familiar feel. Ben May stepped up his game this time round, against an awkward and determined opponent. Having gone behind twice, he controlled the final game with some well constructed rallying to win an epic 3-2 match. The whole team produced good squash to win 3-0. Saturday evening continued in competitive match play…..this time at 10 pin bowling. The coach put the youngsters in their place, and proved that power wasn't always necessary. 3 down, 1 to go. Pontefract Squash Club is one of the leading clubs in the country, and provided by far the sternest challenge of the weekend in the last match. All the team performed admirably against quality opposition, with David MacDonald challenging a vastly experienced opponent. 0-4 loss, but a great end to the tour. Following on from the huge success of Canada and Portugal, next year should be another superb year for The Sports Academy juniors as the team provides opportunities that very few squash players ever get.

Canada Tour 2010

The final report from the Sports Academy Tour to Canada. Rob Dadds & Peter Dickinson return to England after 3 weeks of excellent Squash in Canada. With The Sun & Surf Vancouver Open Squash Championships behind them and with a feeling of a job well done, Robert Dadds and Peter Dickinson made their way to Victoria on Vancouver Island for the final stop on their three week Squash Tour of Canada. Here they were met by one of the major sponsors of the tour, Harrow Sport, who as well as congratulating them on the results they had achieved across Western Canada, presented them with some special loggo'd clothing for their return to the UK. Stuart Dixon, owner and Professional at The Victoria Squash Club, the centre for junior squash on the Island, is an old playing buddy of travellingTour Professional David Morgan: arriving on Vancouver Island in 1978 from New Zealand - via a couple of years in Calgary where he met Morgan - Stuart has turned out to be one of the best squash teaching Pros in N America and continues to turn out top young players year after year. On his 2010 Summer Camp Coaching Team were Ashley Clackson, winner of five National titles - including The Canadian Nationals which she won at 15! Ashley and David Morgan also have a history going back to the early 1990s. Also on the Team was World Squash Doubles champion Victor Berg, still a very useful singles player, who used to be in Stuart Dixon's squad when David Morgan toured through with British juniors in the 1980/90s. two other top players helped out - including Morgan! "I'm fine for a couple of hours - but only every other day, these days" Morgan says! The four days which Pete and Rob had at The Summer Camp were busy and quite tiring, but a great way to finish off a long three week tour. Morgan's summing up - "Rob has come of age in his squash and now has learned the difference between junior and senior squash: he is starting to attack the ball more and realises that he cannot sit back and rely on just his fitness, but has to actually win points when he has created the opportunity: I shall sit down and chat with his coach about my observations - and those of coaches along the way! - when I get home". "Pete needs to understand that a good level of fitness will not be enough if he wants to improve further, especially as he moves into senior squash at University! His shot making is excellent - although he was inclined to make a few too many unforced errors! - but time and time gain his lack of aerobic fitness let him down and that in many cases was the cause of the errors. Training can be the least fun bit of any sport, but without a top level of fitness, you cannot expect to play a top level of sport". David Morgan returns on Friday after a few days 'chilling out' and will help in a presentation to made by the two players in the near future, showing other aspiring young squash players what a fantastic reward can be achieved by hard work - and some dedication. Sports Academy juniors can expect to look forward to the opportunity to a 2012 Canada Tour as well as a number of UK and European Tours through 2010 and 2011. Report from week 2 in Canada. Leaving Calgary on Sunday of last week, The Sports Academy junior squash players touring Canada arrived in Vancouver ready to continue their run of good results. Playing first at The Evergreen Squash Club - one of Vancouver's oldest racket clubs - both Robert Dadds and Peter Dickinson continued their good form with wins over two of the top U19 players from the city. Then it was on to The Jericho Club where they had the opportunity to play on the courts where the upcoming Sun & Surf Open was to be played. Robert and Peter played a round robin against a group of young players, including National U17 champion Michael Thompson, where both enjoyed short game wins against tough opponents. Matches against The Arbutus Club {where the Women's Worlds was played a few years back} and then against The Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Rackets Club resulted in three wins and one loss. This was followed by a rest day before first round matches in the main event - The Honda Sun and Surf Squash Classic - 2010. Peter Dickinson played the second seed in the first round and found his older more experienced opponent too hot to handle going down 5-11, 9-11, 11-13; a really good effort and coach David Morgan commented "one to be proud of"! Peter went on to make the final of the consolation event where he went out to Tyler Olson, the number one seed in the main event.Tyler had been surprisingly unseated by Robert Dadds the day before in the first round. In this match Robert played one of his best games in Canada, unsettling the number one seed by taking the ball early and building pressure from early on. To the discomfort of the partisan crowd, Tyler is a local player from Victoria, Robert made a difficult match seem easy by winning 11-5, 11-4. 11- 9. Unfortunately winning a major open tournament means winning three/ four matches on the trot. Although Robert had beaten his next round opponent in their encounter at The Evergreen Club, three days earlier, this time the task was more difficult and Robert went down 5-11, 11-7, 7-11, 6-11. All in all good results against players with far more experience at this level. "I know when I lived in Canada from 1975 to 1985" said Morgan, " I was amazed by the number of tournaments played in the major cities in Canada and the willingness of top players to travel vast distances to compete. Consequently UK players are usually slightly disadvantaged and end up being a couple of years behind players from countries where more top competition is available at junior levels. Robert and Peter have performed excellently and will return to the UK on Thursday much improved for the experience!" On Sunday the players moved to Victoria, on Vancouver Island, for four days of training with NZ Squash Professional Stuart Dixon, who is running a camp for players from the US and S America. "Getting the chance to get on court with so many players from different countries is another fantastic experience" said Morgan, "hopefully we can bring another group of players in 2012, which just happens to be the 50th Anniversary of the Sports Academy"! The Photo also shows Alex Norman she is from England now living in Montreal and playing on the ladies Pro circuit WISPA and also part of the Harrow Sport Squash Team. Rob & Pete in Canada UPDATE Young squash hopefuls Rob Dadds and Pete Dickinson are in Canada for a three week match playing and training tour. Both players are eighteen and belong to the Sports Academy which is based at Hunts County Squash Club in the Hemingfords, Cambridgeshire. The journey from home to Calgary, Alberta was some fifteen hours in total, with a time change of seven hours: add to that the altitude change of some 1100m above sea level, different playing conditions and being so far away from home and the first match against The World Health Club at Edgemont was a tough starter, which they came through with some difficulty, playing two top 'A' players and splitting the result: since then, they have played four more matches in Calgary against the top clubs, winning against them all - with some style. Travelling on to Vancouver on Friday - another time change! - the two players have had two more matches, winning both games at the well known Jericho Club on the Friday and again splitting the two matches on Saturday at The Evergreen Rackets Club, but getting a result by winning a doubles challenge (on the real doubles court!) by two games to one. With more matches in Vancouver this week and a visit to Whistler on Tuesday/Wednesday for a match there and a visit to many of the Winter Olympic sites, they should be in decent shape for the Sun & Surf Open Tournament starting Thursday: both players are expected to have tough games in the first round. Travelling with Sports Academy coach David Morgan, the experience gained by the players on this sort of tour is outstanding and further N American tours are already being planned, in addition to The Sports Academy tours around the UK and into Europe.

British U23 Championships: 2009 Runners Up become 2010 Champions

Joel Hinds and Deon Saffery finally got their hands on the British Under 23 trophies at Hunts County a year after finishing as runners up. Both finals were great showcases with some wonderful squash. No1 seed and World No60 Saffery defeated Emma Chorley to add the British Under 23 title to the Under 17 crown she took back in 2004. The match started tentatively with unforced errors from both players with neither looking able to take the initiative. At 6-8 down Saffery suddenly discovered her length and eased away to take it 11/8. The second was close but Saffery again had the edge and took a two game lead. Things started to change as the third started and Chorley surged ahead to start a remarkable comeback. She made it back to 2-1 with an easy 11/3 and then lead throughout a tight fourth and eventually took it 11/9 to square things up. As Chorley went 2-0 up in the decider it looked like it was going to be her day but then Saffery somehow regained her composure and took six points on the run - this seemed to brake Chorley's spirit and Saffery went on to take it 11/6 in 50 minutes. A great match with some excellent squash from both players. The Men's final saw the No3 seed Hinds up against Joe Lee who had survived a marathon semi final against Eddie Charlton. Lee showed no effects of his semi final exerts as he powered out of the blocks and took the first 11-7. Hinds roared back to take the second 11/4 and then edged a close third 11/9. The fourth was a fantastic battle with both players going for their shots and retrieving everything the other threw at them but in the end it was Hinds who held his nerve to take the championship his first British title. A wonderful weekend of squash and thanks must go to all at Hunts County for staging such an impressive championships. The event will return to Cambridgeshire again next year as will Joe Lee, Adrian Waller and both beaten women's semi finalists Carrie Ramsey and Sarah-Jane Perry, all in search of the coveted British Under 23 titles. Finals: [1] Deon Saffery bt [2] Emma Chorley 11/8 11/9 3/11 9/11 11/6 (50m) [3] Joel Hinds bt [2] Joe Lee 7/11 11/4 11/9 11/9 (60m)

Former British junior champions Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) and Deon Saffery (Wales) head the seedings for the British Under 23 Championships , supported by Huntingdon Marriott , which are being staged by the prestigious Hunts County Squash Club in Cambridgeshire between 23 and 25 April 2010. The draws announced today include the top players in the age group from around the country. Adrian Waller, the World No58 has enjoyed a great run on the PSA World tour this season and is scheduled to meet long time rival and World No85 Joe Lee (Surrey) in the final. The top are unlikely to have it easy with 3 and 4 seeds Joel Hinds (Derbyshire) and Eddie Charlton (Nottinghamshire) respectively looking to cause upsets. Hinds, who is seeded to meet Waller in the semis, took out top seed Tom Richards (Surrey) in last year's championship before eventually losing in the final to Chris Simpson (Hampshire) . With Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) out through injury Welsh No1 and current World No60 Deon Saffery takes top billing in the Women's draw. It had been Saffery who had ended Lust's challenge for this title at the semi final stage last year before eventually losing out to Fiona Moverley (Yorkshire) in the final. Saffery, based at Pontefract will be looking to go one better this time and claim the Under 23 title to add to the British Under 17 crown she won back in 2004. Emma Chorley (Somerset) is the No2 seed with former European Under 19 champion Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) at No3 and Derbyshire's Millie Tomlinson No4 . 18 year old Carrie Ramsey (Yorkshire) who sensationally claimed the European Under 19 title a few weeks ago is playing the squash of her life and will have her sights set on gate-crashing the semi finals and continue her fantastic run of form. The standard of entries has once again been fantastic with no fewer than 15 current and former British Junior Champions on show. The event gives the very best junior players in the country the opportunity to fight it out with full time professionals who are already rising up the world rankings. The British Under 23 Championship was re-launched last year as a joint venture between England Squash & Racketball , the British Squash Professionals Association and The Sports Academy at Hunts County Squash Club . This year's event has a prize fund of £3450 and promises to build on the success of last year and further establish the championships as one of the country's blue ribbon tournaments. Men's Qualification takes place on Thursday 22 April with the main draws kicking off on Friday 23 April.
For the second year running, the best young squash players from all over the UK will descend upon Hunts County Squash Club in The Hemingfords to contest who are the top British U23 Ladies and Men's Squash Players. For the first time players will have the opportunity to stay in the comfort of a first class local hotel, with The Marriott Huntingdon Hotel supporting the event as the official Tournament Sponsor. With players competing for round by round prize money, The Marriott Hotel and The Sports Academy - organisers of the event on behalf of England Squash and The British Squash Professionals Association - will provide the sixty or so players first class playing conditions on the courts at The Hunts County Squash club, the premier squash club in Cambridgeshire, together with first class accommodation at the finest hotel in the area. Played over four days commencing Thursday April 22nd 2010 , players compete in a format in both the Ladies and Men's events, which sees an eventual ranking position for each player: not only does this mean that players receive prize money based on their eventual play-off position, but also that spectators have the opportunity to watch top class squash for the whole tournament. In 2009, Hunts County Squash Club enjoyed seeing their two main Exhibition Courts - the main court having a seating capacity of over a 140 seats - filled to capacity for all the main draw games. Seats go on sale for the 2010 Tournament from March 15th and can be purchased either at the venue - 01480 498114 for further information - or on line at www.eventelephant.com/britishu23squashchampionships . The British U23s has always been the stepping stone for the best young British squash players wanting to reach the highest standard at International Level. Past winners include James Willstrop (current World number 5), Jenny Duncalf (current World number 6) and of local interest Cassie Jackman from Norfolk who reached World number 1 only retiring due to injury: Cassie presented the trophy and others awards at the 2009 Tournament. Already interest in the 2010 British U23 Squash Championship is high, with early indication that once again all the top players in this age category will compete.
Cambridgeshire Mens Squash Team; 2nd County Weeekend 2009/2010. Div 1 Promotion weekend. A weakened Cambridgeshire Mens County Squash team sponsored by Kentbridgesports travelled down to Oxfordshire to attempt to gain promotion to the National County Premier Stage. Despite missing Harry Leitch and Sammy Chambers a team compromising of Galen Le Chemiant, Staffan Morgan, Neil Rossin, James Powley and Matt Fiveash were confident in making an impression over the weekend. The first match was against a strong Kent side. Despite battling performance from Galen and Steffan at 1st and 2nd strings respectively (both losing 2-3), the team lost 5-0(20-5). Not a good start, however the team rallied together and managed to beat a strong Dorset side 3-2(15-8). The bottom order showed their strength with good wins for Fiveash and Rossin. Powley at 4th string battled back from 2-0 down to pick up a notable win 3-2. So it was onto the third and final match v Oxfordshire. The home county looked strong all weekend and had won both their matches on the Saturday. Again despite some close matches and some battling performances the team could not cope with Oxfordshires world ranked players. The team lost 5-0(20-3). Overall a decent performance from the team. Oxfordshire gained promotion to the Premier and the Cambridgeshire boys maintain their plave in the national Division 1. Regards Neil Rossin

Hunts County claim top prizes at this years County Championships. Left to right Carrie Hastings - Ladies Winner and R-up in Mens Plate Final Sean Brodrick - Mens B Winner Carol Hargreaves - Ladies Plate Winner Nikki Mounter - Ladies Over 40 Winner Nicky Hastings - Ladies Over 50 Winner Galen Le Chaminant - R-up in Mens Final Congratulations to all of you from HCSC and the SA team. Please see report below from the Ladies and Mens Final. Current 2-time Cambridgeshire Champion, Sammy Chambers and previous 3-time winner from 2002 Galen Le Cheminant produced the best county final in memory when they met in the showpiece match. In front of a packed house at the newly refurbished Cambridge Squash Club 18yr old Chambers came back from a two game deficit against the former National 035 finalist to secure his 3rd Accio sponsored county title in a row. It was a welcome return to the courts for both players with Chambers re-turning from a 5 month injury layoff and a 2 year period away from county squash for his older oppo-nent. The final was a clash of styles with the highly deceptive front court game of "Chem", making Chambers cover all 4 corners in the hope that he could pressure his younger opponent into a straight games defeat before his own fitness gave out. The game plan seemed to be working but the 2-set lead had been hard won with Chambers lengthening the rallies and returning more of "Chem‟s" trick-ery. This resulted in Chambers pulling the match back to 2-2, in the final set with the likelyhood of victory slipping away, "Chem" clawed his way back to 9-9. Both players were fighting for every rally, which eventually pushed the game to 11-11. A final pulsating burst of energy saw Chambers come away with victory over the more experienced Le Cheminant, much to the delight of the crowd. A standing ovation was given to both players for producing a great final played out in a won-derful competitive spirit. In the Ladies Final No1 seed and WISPA tour player Carrie Hastings won her 4th County title against 2nd seed Master‟s player Julia Dolman. The younger quicker Hastings was always odds on for victory and wrapped up a straight forward 3 set vic-tory against a hardworking oppo-nent who showed flashes of the attacking approach that had se-cured her place in the final

2009 has been an exciting year for the facility, with major events, new staff and changes to the structure of the club all filling a busy twelve months. COACHING The coaching provision at the club has continued strongly, with good levels of success achieved by many junior members. Ahmed has left to follow his studies in London, but remains linked to the club. Faye Kowalewsky joined the coaching staff in the autumn, and her role should develop in the new year. Already a key figure of the England Squash & Raquet ball staff in the area, she's a great addition to the coaching staff and will concentrate on group and racquetball coaching at the club, as well as working closely with Colin Griggs in local schools. The schools work has again been a huge success over the year, with multi-skills and mini-squash having been delivered to hundreds of children in the area. Many of the club's juniors now regularly compete in tournaments both locally and nationally. The Cambs County Closed was again held at the club in September, with some brilliant results. Tayla Mounter (Girls U13 & U15 Champion) and Paul Jordan (Boys U17 Champion) produced the two best performances, beating their seeding to become county champions for the first time. EVENTS This year saw a land mark moment for the club and the county, when the British U23 Championships were held in April. 62 of the finest young players challenged for the title over 4 days of the highest quality squash. The event also saw 400+ visitors come to the club, and the whole experience was fantastic. It was the first of three championships due to be held here, and the planning and preparation for next year's event is well under way. Building on the success of the 2009 event is another huge challenge, as well as using it to promote the club and lead to further events in the future. GYM Our gym facilities have continued to be popular, with the addition of the St.Ives cycling club as an affiliated member a huge boost for the gym. James Bamford has worked with Mark Coulson to improve the standard of service for the members, and the membership numbers remain good. Further projects and plans for the new year should add to the quality of service and choice available, with group sessions and courses to be started soon. FUTURE PLANS/OTHER Later in the year James Powley became the General Manager of The Pavilion site. This is a positive step for the facility, and will bring an improvement to the running of the business. The conferencing has grown well over the year, and looks set to continue its growth in 2010.2010 looks set to be a great year for the juniors, with tours of Portugal and Canada being planned, to develop from the national tours held in the previous three years. Combined with the British U23's, an exciting year is guaranteed. Plans are in place to start a multi-sport programme to develop the work done for the local community, and a return of the Hunts County Racket ball Open. Our ambition, as always, is to continue improving year on year, and with the members contributing to the team effort this should be achievable yet again. Another busy year for The Pavilion and everyone connected to the club.

HCSC Teams 2008/09 Another solid season for the club as we managed to put out six teams for the Cambs leagues, four mens and two ladies. The season saw the introduction of several new players who have performed really well, namely Dave Potts, Paul McDonald, Paul Jordan and James Berry. Congratulations to the mens fourth team for winning the league title and gaining promotion. The mens first team and both ladies teams managed to secure second place in their respective leagues, again showing that the club is extremely competitive. The second and third mens teams, playing again in the second division managed to maintain their league status, finishing fifth and seventh respectively -this is a very competitive league with several teams very close in terms of points. Great performances from the men's and ladies first teams who won their league cups in two very competitive matches, played at the club for the first time -a clear indication that the profile of the club and venue has significantly improved since the redevelopment. Players of the season were Dave Potts and Nayera EI Refee. A special thanks yet again for John Mitchley for turning out for every team at some point and assisting the fourth team on their way to the league title -again his record stands for itself! As I am not able to commit to the Summer League James and Colin will be arranging the teams. We will be entering two teams into the Peterborough Summer Leagues this year -posters have been put up for volunteers. It is my intention to hold a team night ahead of next season in order to encourage new players. Unless there are any volunteers I would be happy to continue as Club Captain and Third team captain. I look forward to another successful season in 2009/10! Billy

HCSC Teams- First half report

A really mixed start for the teams this season. Starting with the men's first team. New team acquisition, Galen has proved to be a great move for the team making it considerably stronger. They have won all of their matches, most with consummate ease! At the half way stage they have opened up a significant gap and lead at the top by 32 points ahead of Crown Lodge. Assuming that key players remain injury free the league title is clearly more than achievable. The good news ends there I'm afraid in terms of the men's second and third teams! Both teams sit rooted at the bottom of Division 2, the third team having accumulated only 44 points with no wins! The second team managed a win against St Ivo, albeit they only have 70 points. The third team have been struggling with injuries at number one with Adam 'Rocket' Stevenson playing with an injured knee which is seriously affecting his movement.Ian Gabriel has also been struggling and has dropped from four to five. John Ford looks as though he'll be out for the remainder of the season with a strange and rare shoe lace tying injury sustained at Abbottsley during the early part of the season! This will leave a significant gap with all players potentially having to move up. Despite training all through the summer months the third team have not been able to make any impression at all on any of their opponents. Previous seasons of taking a summer break and enjoying the 'outdoor' life, (beer gardens and BBQs!) were clearly a more suitable form of preparation ahead of a tough winter season. We won't make the same mistake next season. The last match before Christmas has been rescheduled to the 16th of December and therefore won't be in this report; however this is sure to be an important match for both teams and potentially a forty pointer! The fourth team are sitting comfortably in fifth position with 112 points in Division 3, the league being led by Portugal Place with 159 points. Some good results in the second half may well see them get into a potential promotion spot, albeit the 'dream' of them playing against the third team is highly unlikely unless we pull a miracleout of the bag after Christmas - stranger things have happened!!! Last and by certainly no means least are the two ladies teams. The ladies first team continues to be consistently solid and are sitting in third spot with 79 points. The league is being led by Cambs University. As always our ladies first team will be in with a shot at the league title at the half way stage - they do however need to stay injury free! Ladies Teams The ladies first team continues to be consistently solid and are sitting in third spot with 79 points. The league is being led by Cambs University. As always our ladies first team will be in with a shot at the league title at the half way stage - they do however need to stay injury free! The ladies second team, are again top of division two! This is a great effort and has seen some real improvement with individual performances getting better with every match! Finally, it's a clear testament to the club that we have, yet again managed to put out six teams in the Cambs leagues! Many thanks again to those who have stepped in when required to play for the teams, particularly John Mitchley who has again been defying the years with some great performances for the men's teams. I do have a small apology to make to him however…… Mitch I apologise for propping you up as the sacrificial lamb against Stamford away for the third team - I guess that someone had to play their awesome number one - so it may as well have been you! This may have been a record as Mitch actually started the match without the infamous sweatshirt - I guess he knew he would be getting a good run around! To update everyone there will be a change of club captain after Christmas. Griggsy will be taking over from me as club captain, albeit I'll remain as the third team captain. Happy New Year to all! Kind Regards. Billy

British U23 semi finals day - Top seed Richards crashes out

Top seed Richards crashes out The first semi final of the day saw a very competitive match between Fiona Moverley and Emma Chorley. After three extremely close games it looked like we were in for a great finale but Moverley had other ideas and stepped up the pace to run out a 3-1 winner and move into the final. Joel Hinds set the British Under 23 Championships alight at Hunts County with a fantastic victory over hot favourite Tom Richards. Richards seemed a little flat in the opening game and Hinds duly took his opportunity and got off to a flier. The second was to-and-fro and either player could have nicked it but again the honours went to Hinds. The third saw Richards seize the initiative and quickly got himself back into it, taking the next two to square things up. It looked like Richards was back in control but Hinds now looked refreshed and kept inching ahead only for Richards to peg him back. At 9-9 it was anyone's but it was Hinds who kept his nerve and to take the next two points and claim a memorable result and a place in tomorrows final. Great game . Victoria Lust was the next to fall. The No2 seed from Bedfordshire was beaten 3-1 by Deon Saffery. After taking the first 12/10 Lust always looked like she was struggling and Saffery took control to seal a well deserved 3-1 victory. Chris Simpson wrapped up the semis with a professional display against Joe Lee. It was a ruthless performance that saw Simpson completely shut out Lee and secured him his first British final appearance since his illustrious junior days.

The Women's Quarter Finals started in impressive fashion for the seeds in the top of the draw. No1 seed Fiona Moverley (Yorkshire) continued her steady progress with a 11/4 11/8 11/2 win over Leonie Holt (Warks) in 19 minutes to set up a semi against Emma Chorley (Somerset) who dispatched Jenna Gates (Sussex) 11/5 11/3 11/4 in 23. The lower half of the draw saw No2 seed Victoria Lust progress to the semi final after her opponent Kimberley Hay (N'bria) withdrew with foot blisters sustained yesterday. Lust now faces Deon Saffery (Wales) who defeated Millie Tomlinson (Derbyshire). Deon looked like she was going to win comfortably but at two up Millie started to fight back and and took the game all the way to a fifth. In a tense final game it was Deon who kept her nerve and won through 11/7 11/3 7/11 7/11 7/11 in 50 minutes. In the men's draw the top 4 seeds all won impressively to set up the expected semi finals. Tom Richards (Surrey) defeated Adrian Waller (Herts) 11/4 11/5 11/4 (46m) and Joel Hinds (Derbyshire) fought back after losing the first to James Snell (Devon) to take control and win 7/11 11/4 11/9 11/5 in 46 minutes. Joe Lee (Surrey) also started slowing and surrendered the first to Neil Cordell (Yorkshire). However he soon regained the initiative in the second and went on to take the match 5/11 11/5 11/3 11/3 (37m). No2 seed Chris Simpson (Hampshire) showed his class with a comprehensive victory over Eddie Charlton (Notts) 11/4 11/3 11/5 in 35 minutes.

Down to the Quarters at Hunts County

The main draws of the British Under 23 Squash Championships got underway in the idyllic sunny village setting of Hunts County Squash Club in Hemingford Grey in Cambridgeshire this afternoon. The men's top seeds eased through round one but 9/16 seeds Olivier Pett (Sussex) and Lewys Hurst (Wales) both fell to unseeded opposition. Pett looked to be carrying an injury as he fell to Ray Nevin (Lancs) in three while Hurst was beaten by Nathan Lake (Glos) 11/9 in the fifth. There were also scares for 5/8 seeded players Adrian Waller (Herts) and Adam Murrills (Cheshire) who both had to grind out hard fought 3-2 wins over Andrew Birks (Shrops) and Ben Jones (Cheshire) respectively. The women's first round saw all 8 seeds move into Saturday's Quarter Finals. Expected finalists and top seeds Fiona Moverley (Yorkshire) and Victoria Lust (Beds) recorded comfortable victories as did the 3/4 seeds Emma Chorley (Somerset) and Deon Saffery (Wales). Leonie Holt, the 5/8 seed from Warwickshire, had her work cut out in her round one match against Victoria Bell (Cumbria). Bell has not been seen on the circuit for about a year and came into this event as a bit of an 'unknown quantity' and probably a player most were looking to avoid. The former British Under 19 Champion twice came back to level at 1-1 and 2-2 before finally surrendering 11/2 in the fifth game. However she will no doubt take comfort from her performance which shows that with a bit of competition she can still compete at a national level. Kimberley Hay (N'bria), another 5/8 seed also had problems in overcoming the improving Harriet Ingham (Surrey) but took the final game 13/11 to book her quarter final spot against Victoria Lust. The final session of the day saw the men complete the quarter final line up. The top half of the draw was fairly straightforward with the expected outcomes. The tournaments hot favourite Tom Richards (Surrey) quickly dispatched Ray Nevin who had earlier caused an upset by defeating Oliver Pett. Richards now meets Adrian Waller (Herts) who didn't quite seem on top form today dropping four games in his two rounds. Joel Hinds (Derbyshire) encountered spirited resistance from the European U19 Champion Anthony Graham (Gloucs) but went on to win 3-1 to secure his quarter final with James Snell (Devon) who defeated Adam Murrills (Cheshire) in straight games. The second half of the draw saw Chris Simpson (Hampshire) and Joe Lee (Surrey), the No2 + 3/4 seeds, take the easy route to the quarters. Simpson will face Eddie Charlton (Notts) after he overcame Alex Ingham (Surrey) in straight games. Lee now faces Neil Cordell (Yorkshire) who caused the only upset in round two by taking out 5/8 seed Lewis Walters in a tight five setter.

SA juniors go to Redbridge Junior Classic

Redbridge Squash Tournament, Essex Steve Mason, Paul Jordan, Nayera El-Refee, Nadine El-Refee, Tayla Mounter and Tiaki Loza entered the Redbridge tournament, with James Powley as the team coach. With the boy's matches starting early at about nine, it was an early start for all. It was Tiaki's first major tournament, and he was scheduled first to play (in the under 15's). He put in an outstanding performance, however his opponent got the better of him and won, which unfortunately put Tiaki in the plate of the under 15's. Then it was Steve Mason's and Paul Jordan's turn to play their first matches (in the under 17's), regrettably starting at more or less the same time. Both played very well but once again it was a disappointing end with both players suffering the same fate as Tiaki. Steve lost 0-3 (4-11, 8-11, 5-11), and Paul lost 1-3 (11-13, 8-11, 11-6, 7-11). This meant the boys were all in the plate, but how would the girls fair in their first matches? Nadine started it off for the girls and came up against a tough opponent, the game was very close and the two had met before, unfortunately this time her opponent clinched the game. Then it was Nayera's turn, and she too had a very tough opponent. I would like to say that one of the team won, but unfortunately it was a bad start for Hunts County with no wins in the first round. For the boys this meant that they were now in the plate, but for Nayera and Nadine it was a round robin competition as less girls entered the competition, so they still had a chance of winning the main event. The next matches for the boys would start at around 3 o'clock, later for Steve and Paul. This meant long wait for them. However Nadine and Nayera had more matches to play before then. Both girls played extremely well and Nadine…… Nayera had two more matches to play, and won the first 3-0, but regrettably lost her final match against a tough competitor who won the main event. Although squash was constantly taking place with some of the most talented youngsters, the team found themselves with little to do, and so with some great initiative, we found a table tennis table and bats, and then bought a ball for 35p. We then played some memorable matches of table tennis in between watching some great squash of course! It might even be said we played more table tennis then squash. Then it was back to the boys with their next games. Once again Tiaki kicked off with his match, and unfortunately lost after a hard fought match, which put him out of the competition. Steve started his match next, but only a few minutes before Paul's next game, which was lucky as no more than a few hits of the ball later, Steve had broken the strings on his racket that he had only bought 2 days ago. As he had broken the strings on his other racket a few days before, he was left without a racket, and so borrowed Paul's spare. Steve was the victor though, and manage to win 3-1 (11-3, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5). Paul had already started his game, where he played well, but lost it 0-3 (2-11, 3-11, 8-11), which put him out of the competition. Shortly after it was Steve's next game, and he was put out by the same opponent 1-3 (2-11, 11-4, 9-11, 7-11). That meant that the team were all out in this competition and it was time to head back home, but the journey home also had it's mishaps when Tiaki opened the car window to throw out his apple core, little did he know that the suction pads of James's sun screen for his baby were still on the window, and they got stuck causing the window to remain down. This meant that a coat had to be held to stop the cold air from getting into the car, and James had to call the RAC to his house. It was a funny end to a fun day.
