Hunts County Mens 3 v St. Neots
Friday 12 November 2010
Fresh from my 40th birthday celebrations we headed over to St Neots. I made a promise to the lads that we were to remain unbeaten since they took Comberton apart in my absence.
It certainly didn't start well with me up against Anthony Charters. I managed to throw the first game from being 8-4 up losing 10-8. Strong and motivational words from the Rocket saw me play like an absolute tit and lose the second 9-0!!! With my racket having been launched at the wall in frustration I took to the court determined to turn the match around - I needed a win to get my season started - I also knew I could beat this bloke! I dug in and took the next two games, (9/6, 9/3). Despite being 3-0 down in the fifth I kept to the Rocket's game plan, (keep it deep!) and took the game and match 9/5 - huge relief - get in there!!!
Andy was up against the vocal Andy Evans on court 2 - this was a great match which also went to 5. I managed to watch the last game with our man in total control taking it 9-2 - great result Andeee - 2-0 up!
Gab's was a strange match in that he was in total control at 2-0 up, cigar out when his opponent, Nigel Harper started to get some length on his high floaters. Gab couldn't cope with the awkward lobs and lost the next three - hard luck mate!
Chunk's match was over all too quickly - for his opponent Paul Beck. This bloke had absolutely no answer to Chunk's boasts, and at one point was actually shaking his head and laughing! Easy win for Chunk, playing up at 2 - 3-0 - Paul managed 2 points!!!
So with the points and the win secured we all gathered to watch the Rocket take their weirdo no 1 to pieces - or so we thought!
Bryan Williams is a strange 'nodding' bloke who really didn't look that great in the warm up - how wrong we were!
No matter where the maestro put the ball this bloke got it back - and with interest!
At 2-1 down we honestly thought that their bloke had the better of the Rocket. As usual our man somehow got something extra out of the bag - he always does it and I just don't know how!
He took the fourth 9-7 which seemed to take the stuffing out of their bloke who had thrown everything at the Rocket. At 2-2 there was only one winner and the Rocket closed it out 9-3 - another great win and well deserved!
