Hunts County Mens 3 v Peterborough 2

Next up we took on Peterborough at their place. I was up first against Carlos Correira - feisty Portuguese bloke with a bandana who certainly had a good grasp of English slang!

Whilst I never felt under any real pressure he was extremely off putting with his swearing and little conversations he insisted on having between points. I took the first two games, (9/6, 9/1) and then let him get under my skin, losing concentration and the third game, 9/5. I managed to keep my cool to take the fourth and the match, (9/5) - back to back wins - this hasn't happened for a very long time, ( a great feeling though!).

I didn't see Chunk's match, however he was playing the very useful Graham Simms who has certainly played some great squash over the years. Chunk struggled with this one and went down in four - as usual though a great effort!

Andeee had no problem in dispatching Neil Needham in three, albeit he did fall asleep in the third, despite being in total control, (9/2, 9/1, 10/9) - nice one Andeee!

Buddy's match was a really tight one, and had he have been fit he would have taken his little chubby opponent apart. Unfortunately Buddy has been chewing on the sofas again in Egypt! This went all the way to five and Buddy could have nicked it but sadly it wasn't to be and he lost 9/6 in the fifth - a great effort bearing in mind the state he was in - no more holidays until AFTER the season has finished Buddy!

Here we were with the match perfectly balanced. I have to say that this was the most gutsy performance I have ever seen - even by the Rocket's standards!

His opponent, Grant Bird was an extremely awkward, and useful left hander who had a great knowledge of the court and how to play against the Rocket who was struggling more than usual with his array of injuries. This really did look as though it would be over in three very quick games with the Rocket 2-0 down and 7-0 down in the third. We were all ready for the early shower when the Rocket just came alive - from absolutely nowhere he got himself back into the match with some sublime shots taking the third 10-8 - game well and truly on!!!

The next one was another extremely tight one which again went to 10 - thankfully it went to the Rocket 10-9. You could see that their bloke couldn't grasp what had happened and capitulated with the Rocket taking the game and match 9-0.

Believe me this was something special in terms of his commitment - this was a proper display of grit and determination - brilliant!

Three wins out of four - next up Cambridge at Royal Hemmingford!
