For the second year running, the best young squash players from all over the UK will descend upon Hunts County Squash Club in The Hemingfords to contest who are the top British U23 Ladies and Men's Squash Players. For the first time players will have the opportunity to stay in the comfort of a first class local hotel, with The Marriott Huntingdon Hotel supporting the event as the official Tournament Sponsor. With players competing for round by round prize money, The Marriott Hotel and The Sports Academy - organisers of the event on behalf of England Squash and The British Squash Professionals Association - will provide the sixty or so players first class playing conditions on the courts at The Hunts County Squash club, the premier squash club in Cambridgeshire, together with first class accommodation at the finest hotel in the area. Played over four days commencing Thursday April 22nd 2010, players compete in a format in both the Ladies and Men's events, which sees an eventual ranking position for each player: not only does this mean that players receive prize money based on their eventual play-off position, but also that spectators have the opportunity to watch top class squash for the whole tournament.
In 2009, Hunts County Squash Club enjoyed seeing their two main Exhibition Courts - the main court having a seating capacity of over a 140 seats - filled to capacity for all the main draw games. Seats go on sale for the 2010 Tournament from March 15th and can be purchased either at the venue - 01480 498114 for further information - or on line at www.eventelephant.com/britishu23squashchampionships . The British U23s has always been the stepping stone for the best young British squash players wanting to reach the highest standard at International Level. Past winners include James Willstrop (current World number 5), Jenny Duncalf (current World number 6) and of local interest Cassie Jackman from Norfolk who reached World number 1 only retiring due to injury: Cassie presented the trophy and others awards at the 2009 Tournament.
Already interest in the 2010 British U23 Squash
Championship is high, with early indication that once again all the
top players in this age category will compete.
James Powley, General Manager of The Sports Academy says "We are really excited that The Huntingdon Marriott has decided to join The Sports Academy as sponsors to The British U23 Squash Championships and it is a bonus for the players, officials and travelling supporters to be offered excellent tournament rates during the event. We hope that this is the start of a great relationship between England Squash, The Sports Academy at Hunts County Squash Club and The Marriott"
Assem Sweidam, General Manger of The Huntingdon Marriott has said "We are thrilled to be supporting The British U23 Squash Championships this year. One of our core Company values is our 'Spirit to Serve the Community' which is an enduring and important part of doing business 'The Marriott way'. The World class event which is taking place in our local neighbourhood is unique and we wish all the players, Hunts County Squash Club and The Sports Academy all the best"
