HCSC Teams- First half report

A really mixed start for the teams this season. Starting with the men's first team. New team acquisition, Galen has proved to be a great move for the team making it considerably stronger. They have won all of their matches, most with consummate ease! At the half way stage they have opened up a significant gap and lead at the top by 32 points ahead of Crown Lodge. Assuming that key players remain injury free the league title is clearly more than achievable.

The good news ends there I'm afraid in terms of the men's second and third teams! Both teams sit rooted at the bottom of Division 2, the third team having accumulated only 44 points with no wins! The second team managed a win against St Ivo, albeit they only have 70 points. The third team have been struggling with injuries at number one with Adam 'Rocket' Stevenson playing with an injured knee which is seriously affecting his movement.Ian Gabriel has also been struggling and has dropped from four to five. John Ford looks as though he'll be out for the remainder of the season with a strange and rare shoe lace tying injury sustained at Abbottsley during the early part of the season! This will leave a significant gap with all players potentially having to move up.
Despite training all through the summer months the third team have not been able to make any impression at all on any of their opponents. Previous seasons of taking a summer break and enjoying the 'outdoor' life, (beer gardens and BBQs!) were clearly a more suitable form of preparation ahead of a tough winter season. We won't make the same mistake next season. The last match before Christmas has been rescheduled to the 16th of December and therefore won't be in this report; however this is sure to be an important match for both teams and potentially a forty pointer!

The fourth team are sitting comfortably in fifth position with 112 points in Division 3, the league being led by Portugal Place with 159 points. Some good results in the second half may well see them get into a potential promotion spot, albeit the 'dream' of them playing against the third team is highly unlikely  unless we pull a miracleout of the bag after Christmas - stranger things have happened!!!

Last and by certainly no means least are the two ladies teams. The ladies first team continues to be consistently solid and are sitting in third spot with 79 points. The league is being led by Cambs University. As always our ladies first team will be in with a shot at the league title at the half way stage - they do however need to stay injury free!

Ladies Teams

The ladies first team continues to be consistently solid and are sitting in third spot with 79 points. The league is being led by Cambs University. As always our ladies first team will be in with a shot at the league title at the half way stage - they do however need to stay injury free! The ladies second team, are again top of division two! This is a great effort and has seen some real improvement with individual performances getting better with every match! Finally, it's a clear testament to the club that we have, yet again managed to put out six teams in the Cambs leagues!

Many thanks again to those who have stepped in when required to play for the teams, particularly John Mitchley who has again been defying the years with some great performances for the men's teams. I do have a small apology to make to him however…… Mitch I apologise for propping you up as the sacrificial lamb against Stamford away for the third team - I guess that someone had to play their awesome number one - so it may as well have been you! This may have been a record as Mitch actually started the match without the infamous sweatshirt - I guess he knew he would be getting a good run around!

To update everyone there will be a change of club captain after Christmas. Griggsy will be taking over from me as club captain, albeit I'll remain as the third team captain.

Happy New Year to all!

Kind Regards.
